Apple is known to create revolutions or can we say it used to create revolutions.
Not anymore, iPhone 7 the latest mobile device from Apple signals a disturbing trend. In fact it won’t be a farce statement to say that Apple is going the BlackBerry way. Research In Motion based out of Canada is considered the maker of first smartphone called BlackBerry. BlackBerry use specialized in secure communications and mobile productivity and was once a dominant player in the smartphone industry. However, due to lack of innovation and adaptability, the company totally blew it and Blackberry is now considered classic although their email and messaging platform is still considered secure and is used by most Government organizations.
The launch of Apples new iPhone 7 is showing similar signs now. People are struggling to find the real change or difference between the previous version and the latest one. Apart from minor cosmetic changes, waterproofing (Which other competitors have already done a few years back) and slight improvement in the camera, there is nothing new in iPhone 7.
The phone so far has failed to impress the loyal Apple users. This has given Android users more reasons to stick with it and rather lot of Apple users are planning to switch to Android platform. The company launched two versions of iPhone which is iPhone 7 and iPhone7 plus. The only difference between the two phones is that iPhone 7 plus has a DSLR type camera while iPhone 7 does not have one. Why would somebody buy a bigger phone just for the image quality. Apple claims this to be the fastest iPhone ever but who cares when there is nothing new.
Back in early 2000, Apple introduced iPod that was truly a revolutionary product. This was followed by the phenomenal iPhone which was widely accepted and embraced by masses and created an unprecedented amount of brand loyalty which has never been seen in the history of the brand market. But Apple is heading on the path of BlackBerry and is totally out of ideas. Meanwhile the rival companies such as Samsung, Huawei and LG are totally thinking out of the box to present new ideas to their smartphones. The super success of Samsung Galaxy S7 is pushing Apple towards the wall.
Apple’s market share in dropping badly from last year. While in 2015, Apple had a market Share of 15.9%, the same has shrunk in the second quarter of 2016 with 12.9% of market share which is expected to further sink with the introduction of New lacklustre iPhone 7.
It is said that never rest on your laurels and Apple exactly doing the opposite. They are confident that the new iPhones will sell out like hotcakes but times are changing. The phone has totally failed to impress not only the users but also the investors in the stock market. Popular financial institutions have already sounded the alarm and have downgraded the stock with lack of innovation. If they trend continues, and Apple keeps launching a new iPhone by just changing the colour of the body, Apple is surely guaranteed to lose the legendary status for which it is famous for. Has a loyal Apple customer, we hope Tim Cook seriously change this strategy of focusing on the quality rather adding frills to the old phone.
