The best AI chatbot for most Shopify stores in 2026 is Tidio, because it combines a 4.7 rating from 1,285 Shopify App Store reviews with the lowest realistic entry price for a true AI agent ($39 per month for up to 200 AI conversations) and native Shopify actions like order lookups. If you run a high-volume store, Gorgias is the stronger helpdesk. If you want to spend nothing, Shopify’s own Inbox now ships with a capable free AI sales associate.
This guide compares seven options side by side: Tidio, Gorgias, Shopify Inbox, Rep AI, Intercom Fin, Zendesk AI, and Relish AI. We looked at current pricing, App Store ratings, AI capability, and the billing gotchas that only show up on your second invoice. If you are still deciding whether a chatbot is worth it at all, start with our guide to AI chatbots for e-commerce customer support.
Who this guide is for
This comparison is written for Shopify merchants, from solo store owners to teams handling thousands of support tickets a month. It matters where you sit on that range: the right answer for a store doing 50 conversations a month is very different from the right answer for a Shopify Plus brand doing 5,000. We flag which store size each tool fits throughout, and there is a one-line recommendation per app near the end.
How we researched this comparison
This is a research-based comparison, not a hands-on test. We did not install these apps on a live store, and nothing here is based on our own usage. The comparison draws on each vendor’s official pricing pages and documentation, Shopify App Store listings (ratings, review counts, and published pricing tiers), and third-party pricing analyses, all reviewed on July 19, 2026. Where a claim comes from a vendor’s own marketing or from merchant reviews, we say so. Pricing and ratings change; verify current numbers before you buy.

Detailed analysis

Tidio: the balanced pick
Tidio’s Shopify App Store listing, reviewed on July 19, 2026, shows a 4.7 rating across 1,285 reviews, with 85 percent five-star. Its AI agent, Lyro, gets its own plan at $39 per month for up to 200 AI conversations, which includes website scraping for training, “Lyro tasks,” and native Shopify actions. The free plan covers live chat with 50 users, and the Customer Service plan starts at $29 per month for 100 conversations. The main criticism in recent reviews is around data portability: a July 2026 App Store review complained that conversation history cannot be exported, and Tidio’s reply confirmed the feature is not available. Note that the advertised per-conversation economics also shift as you scale; a Chatarmin pricing analysis found a large gap between Tidio’s entry plans and its $749 per month Plus tier.
Gorgias: the high-volume helpdesk
Gorgias is a full ecommerce helpdesk rather than a chat widget. Its published pricing runs from a $10 per month Starter plan with 50 tickets through Basic ($60, 300 tickets), Pro ($360, 2,000 tickets), and Advanced ($900, 5,000 tickets), with per-ticket overage fees of roughly $0.36 to $0.40. The AI Agent is billed separately at $1.00 per resolution on monthly billing, or $0.90 on annual. Its strength is action: the AI can process cancellations, initiate refunds, and update shipping details inside Shopify. The weakness is the bill. Pricing analyses by Chatarmin and Macha both note that each AI interaction also consumes a helpdesk ticket, so a resolution effectively costs the AI fee plus a ticket. One reviewer on the Shopify App Store reported roughly $14,000 in unexpected AI Agent charges on top of an annual subscription. The app’s current App Store rating is 4.2 across 663 reviews, lower than most rivals here.
Shopify Inbox: the free native option
Shopify Inbox is free and holds a 4.7 rating from roughly 5,000 App Store reviews (ShopDigest counts 4,962; StoreLeads counts 5,122). The big change came in Shopify’s Spring ’26 Edition, published June 17, 2026, which added an AI sales associate to Inbox. According to Shopify’s announcement, it answers buyer questions, suggests products, and handles order inquiries using the catalog, inventory, and policy data already in your admin, with merchant control over tone and escalation. Because it reads your store data directly, there is no training step. Recent reviews praise the accuracy but flag bugs in the updated app and limited customization of automated messages.
Rep AI: the sales-first chatbot
Rep AI positions itself as an AI sales associate rather than a support tool. Its behavioral AI watches shopper activity and starts conversations when someone looks likely to leave. The App Store listing shows a 4.7 rating from 111 reviews, 95 percent of them five-star. Pricing is visitor-based: a free tier covers 100 visitors and 100 products, then Starter is $99 per month for 10,000 visitors, Basic $199 for 25,000, and Standard $350 for 50,000, with $12 per additional 1,000 visitors on every tier. Shopify’s auto-generated review summary says merchants report conversion improvements, with some citing a 13 percent conversion rate and 20X ROI; treat those as individual merchant claims, not measured benchmarks. A February 2026 one-star review describes being cut off mid-year on an annual plan after exceeding usage limits, which is worth reading before committing annually.
Intercom Fin: the premium per-resolution agent
Fin is Intercom’s AI agent and the best-known example of per-resolution pricing: $0.99 per resolved conversation on top of Intercom’s per-seat plans, or a standalone deployment documented at $49 per month including 50 resolutions, per pricing breakdowns by Gleap and Macha. A resolution counts when the customer confirms the answer or leaves without asking for more, which means you pay for assumed successes too. Fin connects to Shopify but is not a Shopify-native app, so there is no App Store rating to compare. One development to watch: on June 15, 2026, Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire the company for a reported $3.6 billion. Pricing is unchanged as of this writing, but repackaging is possible.
Zendesk AI: the enterprise suite
Zendesk Suite starts at $55 per agent per month (Team) and $115 (Professional) on annual billing, with AI agents billed per verified resolution: roughly $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, according to eesel and Richpanel pricing analyses. Its Shopify integration is deep; Zendesk’s documentation describes AI agents checking order status, processing returns, and updating records across connected systems. Two 2026 billing changes matter: since January, Zendesk automatically bills resolutions above your committed volume without prior notification, and a May 2026 rollout folded the formerly separate $50 Advanced AI add-on into Suite plans while keeping per-resolution overage. Like Fin, it is a platform with a Shopify integration rather than a native app.
Relish AI: the budget automation play
Relish AI is the cheapest real AI option in this comparison. Its App Store listing shows a 5.0 rating, but from only 16 reviews, so weigh that sample size accordingly. The free plan includes 30 AI responses and 50 products; Starter is $9 per month for 200 AI responses, Grow $39 for 1,000, and Pro $99 for 3,000, with overage at $0.04 per additional AI response, which is the most transparent overage pricing here. It automates order tracking, cancellations, returns, and subscription changes, and integrates with Gorgias, Zendesk, Recharge, and Klaviyo. Reviews consistently praise the support team, though the small install base means less community knowledge when things break.
Pros and cons
Tidio
- Pros: high rating at scale, cheap AI entry point, native Shopify actions, free plan
- Cons: no conversation export, costs stack up when you combine add-ons, big jump to the $749 Plus tier
Gorgias
- Pros: AI acts on orders directly, purpose-built for ecommerce, strong at high volume
- Cons: lowest rating in this group (4.2), AI resolutions also burn tickets, documented overage complaints
Shopify Inbox
- Pros: free, no training needed, native store data access, huge review base
- Cons: limited customization, recent update bugs reported, no advanced helpdesk features
Rep AI
- Pros: proactive selling focus, high five-star share, 30-day trial
- Cons: visitor-based pricing punishes traffic spikes, $99 entry is steep for small stores, annual-plan cutoff complaint on record
Intercom Fin
- Pros: strong AI quality reputation, pay-for-outcomes model, works with non-Intercom helpdesks
- Cons: seat costs plus resolution fees add up, “assumed resolutions” are billable, acquisition uncertainty
Zendesk AI
- Pros: deep multi-system actions, enterprise features, Shopify order handling
- Cons: most expensive per resolution here, automatic overage billing, heavy for small stores
Relish AI
- Pros: $9 entry, clear $0.04 overage, order and subscription automation
- Cons: only 16 reviews, English only, small ecosystem
Pricing: what the tiers actually include
Advertised starting prices rarely match what you pay. Tidio’s $39 Lyro plan covers 200 AI conversations; combine it with the Customer Service and Flows plans and a working setup lands near $100 per month. Gorgias charges twice per AI resolution in practice, once for the resolution and once for the ticket it consumes, and both meters have overage. Rep AI bills by traffic, not conversations, so a viral product can spike your bill at $12 per 1,000 extra visitors. Intercom Fin and Zendesk both bill per resolution ($0.99 versus roughly $1.50 to $2.00), and both count outcomes where the customer simply left. Zendesk added automatic overage billing in January 2026. Relish AI’s flat $0.04 per extra response is the easiest to forecast. Shopify Inbox is the only genuinely free option. Evidence
In place of screenshots, here is the documented record we relied on. Shopify App Store listings, retrieved July 19, 2026: Tidio 4.7 from 1,285 reviews with published plans of $29 to $39 per month; Rep AI 4.7 from 111 reviews with published plans of $99 to $350 per month; Relish AI 5.0 from 16 reviews with plans of $9 to $99 per month; Gorgias 4.2 from 663 reviews. Shopify Inbox review counts of 4,962 and 5,122 come from ShopDigest and StoreLeads app-tracking data respectively. The Shopify Spring ’26 Edition announcement (June 17, 2026) documents the Inbox AI sales associate. Per-resolution rates come from vendor pricing pages as analyzed by Gleap, Macha, Chatarmin, eesel, and Richpanel. The Salesforce agreement to acquire Intercom’s Fin was announced June 15, 2026. Merchant outcome figures (13 percent conversion, 20X ROI for Rep AI) are individual merchant claims surfaced in Shopify’s review summary, not audited results.
Who should choose each option
Tidio suits most small to mid-sized stores that want real AI without helpdesk complexity. Gorgias fits established brands doing hundreds of tickets a month with heavy order-related volume. Shopify Inbox is the default for any store that wants AI answers at zero cost. Rep AI fits DTC brands with decent traffic focused on conversion rather than support. Intercom Fin suits support teams that want best-in-class AI and will pay per outcome. Zendesk AI fits larger teams already invested in Zendesk. Relish AI fits bootstrapped stores that want order automation for under $10 a month.
Limitations of this comparison
We did not run these chatbots on a live store, so we cannot verify response quality, real resolution rates, or how each AI handles a specific catalog. Ratings and review counts are a snapshot from July 19, 2026 and will drift. Pricing changes frequently in this category, and two of the seven vendors (Intercom and Zendesk) were mid-transition on pricing or ownership at the time of writing. Merchant-reported results like conversion lifts are self-selected and cannot be generalized. Treat this guide as a shortlist builder, then trial your top two; most of these apps offer 7 to 30 day trials.
